Why Your Client's Lashes Keep Falling Out (The Real Reasons)
The blunt truth
When a set falls out early, techs blame the glue. Clients blame the tech. Nine times out of ten, neither is actually responsible. The lashes are falling out because of what happens between the appointment and the next fill.
The top 6 reasons lashes fall out early
1. Oil-based products on the eye area
Cleansing oils, waterproof mascara removers, coconut oil in skincare, makeup wipes with fragrance oils. All of them break down the adhesive bond over days. Most clients don't know this.
2. Rubbing the eyes
Morning wash routines where they scrub the eye area, crying at a rom-com, sleeping face-down into a pillow. Friction rips fans out at the base.
3. Sleeping on cotton pillowcases
Cotton grabs. Silk glides. Clients sleeping face-down on cotton lose lashes on whichever side they favour.
4. Not cleansing daily
Counterintuitive, but NOT washing lashes causes more shedding than over-washing. Oil, makeup, and debris build up at the bond line and loosen the adhesive.
5. Using mascara (even "safe" mascara)
No mascara is safe on extensions. Pigment gets stuck in the fans, cleansing removes pigment AND lashes. Just don't.
6. Skipping Superbonder at the application
This one's on you. Without Superbonder, the adhesive keeps curing for 24 hours — during which the bond is brittle and fumes are releasing. Early shedding between day 3 and day 7 is almost always a missing Superbonder issue.
"90% of early shedding is aftercare, not application. Educate your clients on day one and your retention doubles."
How to stop it happening
Fix your application workflow
Primer before. Our adhesive during. Superbonder after. That's the retention stack. Without all three, you're leaving retention on the table.

THE ESSENTIAL STEP
Post-Treatment Superbonder Sealant
Cures the bond instantly. Prevents the 24-hour vulnerability window. Non-negotiable.

Aftercare is a team sport. You apply correctly with the full retention stack. Client cleanses, avoids oils, sleeps right. When both sides do the work, sets hold 4 weeks. When either drops the ball, you're re-lashing them at week 2.
