A Complete Guide to Lash Curls: C, CC, D and L Explained

If you're confused about which curl to pick for which client, you're not alone. Most techs default to one curl and never switch. But curl shape changes everything about the finished look.

What is a "curl" anyway?

Curl refers to the shape of the lash extension fibre. The more pronounced the curl, the more "lifted" and "open" the eye appears. Each curl type suits a different natural lash and different client request.

C Curl — the workhorse

Gentlest curl. Gives a natural, soft lift. Best for clients with naturally straight lashes who want subtle enhancement. Also the go-to for classic sets where you want a natural, not-done look.

CC Curl — the sweet spot

Slightly more lifted than C without stepping into full D drama. The most-requested curl in 2026. Works on the widest range of eye shapes and client preferences. If you had to stock one curl, this is it.

D Curl — the lift

Strong, open-eye lift. Best for clients with downward-pointing natural lashes (the curl gives them the appearance of being "lifted"). Photographs beautifully. Popular with clients who want obvious lash length and lift.

L Curl — the lift for stubborn lashes

Flat base, sharp lift. Specifically designed for clients with very straight, downward-angled lashes where even a D curl doesn't lift enough. L gives a dramatic fanned-up look from the base. Can look bold on some clients, perfect for others. Want full, fluffy U curl drama instead? That's our Viral Double Classics.

Quick Match

Straight natural lashes → D or L. Natural lift already → C or CC. Asian or downward lashes → L. Everyday request → CC.

Diameter matters too

On top of curl, you pick diameter (0.03, 0.05, 0.15, 0.18). Finer diameters (0.03, 0.05) fan for volume. Thicker diameters (0.15, 0.18) are for classic single-extension sets. Browse the full Russian Volume Trays collection if you're looking for D curl Russian options.

Pro tip: mix curls on one set

Top techs use 2+ curls on a single set. CC at the inner corners for softness, D through the middle and outer for lift. Adds dimension that looks bespoke rather than uniform.
